Five for Friday – Earth Day Edition

We all know that taking care of the Earth is something we should all be doing. I’ve been doing my part, and so should you! Every little bit counts and so, as you traipse through the aisles of Sephora consider eco-friendly cosmetics. As a consumer this definitely constitutes doing your part, who knew taking care of mother nature could be so pretty? Here are five makeup lines that will have both you and the environment looking your best. After all, going green is always in style.

1. Josie Maran Cosmetics

Launched back in 2006, by model Josie Maran this company promotes eco living and an everyday commitment to the environment. Since the beginning Josie has been working with the Environmental Working Group’s site Skin Deep for the creation of the cosmetics’ formulas and with The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to bypass harmful ingredients. The commitment to quality, luxury, and the environment that embodies the brand is something that we can all learn from. Staying beautiful with Josie Maran and caring for the earth is a win-win for us all. The entire line is full of amazing products, one of my favorites being the cream blush. Gorgeous!

2. Aveda Cosmetics

Aveda has been on the cutting edge of eco-friendly for the pas several years. From the windpower that they use to power the district headquarters to the ingredients that they put in their products, everything is done with the earth in mind. Aveda’s latest move was to collaborate with the Yawanaw tribe from Brazil to organically grow Urukum for their latest collection – Uruku Make-up. Each line of make-up that Aveda is currently manufacturing has a similar story, they are helping the environment and helping to sustain indigenous populations around the world. The Uruku line is one of my favorites, the lipsticks are definitely worth checking out.

3. Cargo PlantLove

The new line from Cargo, PlantLove is ECOCERT certified, which means that the products are internationally recognized as organic, this that guarantees the genuine practice of environmental respect throughout the formulation and manufacturing of the product. The PlantLove line is just as beautiful as it is progressive. The line started with a set of lipsticks (packed in recycled plantable packaging) named and chosen by celebrities. Since then the line has expanded to include everything from eye shadow to lip liner. It’s no wonder that this cult favorite brand has one of the most earth pleasing and cosmetic junkie pleasing lines. My favorite has got to e the lipsticks though, they are majorly long wearing!

4. Physicians Formula Organic Wear

When you think of Physicians Formula you probably think of the swirly rainbow products that they carry, there is so much more to the brand though. The Organic Wear line was the first cosmetics line to receive the ECOCERT certification. This was a major breakthrough in the cosmetics world. Another perk to this 100% natural brand? It’s widely available and can be purchased in drugstores and grocery stores everywhere, its hard to miss the adorable recycled paper packaging, I’m sure you’ve seen it. Going green has never been co convenient.

5. EcoTools

EcoTools makes it easier than ever to go green with your make-up brushes. What do we all look for in a brush? A sleek bamboo handle, gorgeous recycled aluminum ferrule and incredibly soft bristles sound about right don’t they? Everything that EcoTools produces is made in an earth conscious way, from the brushes to the packaging that’s produced in an eco-conscious way. It includes: reusable pouches, post-consumer recycled plastic and recyclable packaging. Another perk? the brand donates 1% of their profits to EarthShare and Wildlife Alliance. My favorite brush is the Finishing Kabuki, its perfect for applying translucent powders, and the ergonomically correct shape aids in application.

As all of these beauty brands show every little bit does count. Going green doesn’t mean you have to drive a prius and name your dog “Greenopolis” it’s as easy as applying your eco friendly make-up with eco friendly brushes. There;s nothing stopping you from looking your prettiest and helping the planet at the same time.
