Beauty D.I.Y.

For me nothing beats a trip to the spa, getting a facial is one of my favorite things in the world. I’m sure the same can be said for many of you ladies, too. With a troublesome economy though many of us have had to skip the monthly spa visits. Why should your skin have to suffer though? There are many ways to give yourself an at home D.I.Y. facial, so grab your girlfriends and let the pampering begin!

D.I.Y. Juice Mask for Oily Skin
(Strawberry and lemon juice contain natural astringents.)
½ tsp lemon juice
1 egg whites
1 ½ tsp honey
½ cup strawberries

Mash or blend the above ingredients. Smooth over face. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse.

D.I.Y. Mask for Acne

½ cup fresh mint
½ cup cilantro
1 tbsp powdered zinc (an anti-inflammatory)
Blend mint and cilantro in a food processor; add water to make a paste. Blend in powdered zinc. Leave on for 10 minutes.

D.I.Y. Mask for Dry Skin

Avocados and honey are particularly moisturizing.
½ avocado
¼ cup honey

Mash the avocado in a bowl, and stir in the honey. Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse with a cool wash cloth.

D.I.Y. Milk Mask for Dry Skin

1 tsp powdered milk
1 tbsp almonds, pulverized
1 tbsp runny honey
1 tsp aloe vera crème

Mix ingredients well, apply to face, let sit for 15 minutes, wash off with warm water. This recipe is enough for two.

D.I.Y. Mask for Sensitive Skin

(This soothing mask is great for chapped, sunburned or irritated skin.)

1 cup natural yogurt (the colder the better)
½ cup oatmeal

Mix the ingredients together and apply to the skin, leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash off mask with a chilled washcloth. If you don’t have yogurt in the house, you can substitute Pepto-Bismol, the agents that soothe your stomach also soothe your face.

*This mask works well for other skin types also. For oily skin, add a couple drops of lemon or lime juice. For dry skin, mix in a couple tablespoons of honey.

D.I.Y Exfoliating Face Mask
3 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp warm water

Melt the sugar in warm water. Apply to the face and leave for 10 minutes. Gently massage around the skin, be careful not to pull on the skin. Rinse.
